Alisanda is a human paladin and one of the barae—the immortal defenders of the Chultan city of Mezro. She is wed to Artus Cimber, having fallen in love with him over a century ago when he helped defend Mezro against the evil warlord Ras Nsi and his undead horde.
Role in the Adventure
When Mezro was threatened by the Spellplague, Alisanda and the other barae used their god-given magic to transport the entire city to a paradise—a magically constructed demiplane far from the Material Plane. Empty ruins were left behind to create the illusion that the city had been destroyed. Before being spirited away, Alisanda promised Artus she would return to Chult when the city was no longer in peril.
Relationship with Artus Cimber
Alisanda’s relationship with Artus is the primary motivation for his continued presence in Chult. Though the Ring of Winter has made Artus immortal, he has grown impatient waiting for Alisanda’s return over the intervening decades. He periodically visits Mezro’s ruins to check for any changes and searches the jungles for Orolunga, hoping to consult with a guardian naga that might provide information about reuniting with his wife.
Artus refuses to part with the Ring of Winter partly because doing so would cause him to age normally, and he wishes to live forever with Alisanda. His devotion to her is absolute—he will not endanger the Mezroans by revealing the truth about their city, and when forced to choose between keeping the ring or accepting the Harpers’ assistance in reaching Mezro, he chooses to keep the ring.
Current Status
Alisanda remains in the demiplane with the rest of Mezro. The conditions for the city’s return are not specified, and it is unknown if or when the Mezroans will come back to Chult. Characters who wish to help Artus reunite with Alisanda might use divination magic, conduct research, or potentially discover a hidden portal to Mezro’s demiplane somewhere in Chult.
