Description

Azuth is the god of wizardry in the D&D pantheon. Within the Tomb of the Nine Gods, he is represented by one of two statues in the Golem Pit (area 39).

Role in the Adventure

Azuth’s statue serves as part of a teleportation puzzle mechanism in the Golem Pit trap room. The statue faces the pit alongside a statue of Torm (god of courage and self-sacrifice).

Mechanics

  • Identification: Characters can identify Azuth’s statue with a successful DC 12 Intelligence (Religion) check
  • Magic Detection: The statue radiates an aura of abjuration magic when detected
  • Puzzle Mechanism: The statue sits on a rotating, spring-loaded gear. When rotated to the right, it teleports one creature from inside the pit onto the third plinth (randomly determined if multiple creatures are in the pit). The statue automatically grinds back to its starting position when released

Relationships

Azuth’s statue works in tandem with Torm’s statue—while Azuth’s statue teleports creatures out of the pit, Torm’s statue (when rotated right) teleports anything on or above the third plinth into the pit.

Spirit Advice

Characters inhabited by the spirit of Moa or Papazotl receive warnings about this area, with Papazotl specifically insisting that someone should stand on the third plinth, noting “It must be empty for a reason!”
