Drufi is a female frost giant who leads an expedition of twenty frost giants to Chult, searching for the Ring of Winter and its bearer, Artus Cimber. She serves as captain of the Hvalspyd, a 250-foot longship anchored off Chult’s northeast coast.
Mission and Motivation
Drufi operates under orders from her lord, Jarl Storvald, who desires the Ring of Winter to freeze the world and bring about the “Age of Everlasting Ice.” This vision keeps Drufi focused despite the miserable conditions. She has no knowledge of Acererak, the Soulmonger, or the death curse plaguing the region.
Search Operations
Drufi has divided her forces into five search parties of three giants each (plus winter wolves), while three giants remain aboard the Hvalspyd and two guard the beach. Her own search party includes two male frost giants and two winter wolves. The giants’ search has ranged from the coast to the River Tiryki, and from Port Castigliar ruins to the northeastern mountains. She has spotted Fort Beluarian and Port Nyanzaru but avoids Flaming Fist patrols.
The frost giants leave obvious trails through the jungle—trampled brush, broken trees, enormous boot prints, and runic trail markings carved into trees or boulders. Their search method is inefficient, and Drufi plans to eventually sail south to Refuge Bay and restart the search from there.
Personality and Tactics
Drufi despises Chult’s tropical climate, regarding it as “the worst kind of hell imaginable,” but refuses to fail her jarl’s mission. When questioning others about Artus Cimber or the Ring of Winter, her attempts at subtlety are as obvious as “a charging mammoth” (DC 10 Wisdom (Insight) reveals her interest in a powerful magic item).
She has no inherent reason to attack adventurers unless they attack first or she suspects they’re withholding information about the Ring of Winter. If she learns characters have met Artus Cimber but won’t reveal his location, she will capture and torture them for information.
