Ekene-Afa is a lawful good female Chultan human gladiator and one of Port Nyanzaru’s seven merchant princes. She earned her fame and fortune as a legendary gladiator in the Grand Coliseum before retiring to become a trader and politician. A statue commemorating her arena victories stands atop the coliseum walls, and she remains a legend among the common people who grew up watching her battles.
Business & Trade
Ekene-Afa controls the trade in weapons, shields, traveling gear, rain catchers, saddles, wagons, and canoes throughout Port Nyanzaru. Her inventory consists primarily of:
- Flint daggers
- Yklwas (traditional Chultan weapons with wooden shafts and obsidian tips)
- Shields made from wooden frames with stretched reptile hide
- Canoes (50 gp each, hold up to six Medium creatures)
- Rain catchers (1 gp, 5 lb.)
She also sells select enchanted items, paying fellow merchant prince Wakanga O’tamu to place permanent enchantments on weapons and shields. Her magic items include +1 ammunition (50 gp per piece), +1 wooden shields (450 gp), and +1 daggers or yklwas (500 gp).
Family & Relationships
Ekene-Afa is married to Kura, a painter, and they have twin teenage sons:
- Soshen - serves as a city guard
- Tiryk - a popular dinosaur racer
Both sons are named after Chultan rivers, following local tradition.
Rivalries
Fellow merchant prince Ifan Talro’a is jealous of Ekene-Afa’s arena reputation, viewing it as a mark against his own standing among the merchant princes.
Villa
Her villa displays ornate weapons, shields, and framed paintings throughout, with squawking parrots kept in gilded cages as decoration.
