Overview

Faroul and Gondolo are a pair of incompetent fortune hunters and down-on-their-luck dandies who serve as potential guides for hire in Port Nyanzaru. They offer to lead adventurers to what they believe is an easily claimed dragon’s hoard at Needle’s Bones on an equal-shares basis.

Background

Faroul (NG male Calishite human scout) was shipped off to Port Nyanzaru by his exasperated parents with instructions to make his fortune. He brought along his carousing companion Gondolo (CG male lightfoot halfling scout with 13 hit points), and the pair arrived bursting with coin and ready for adventure.

Within months, they squandered most of Faroul’s cash at the dinosaur races and accumulated debts to numerous bookies and several merchant princes. Their only remaining asset from months of debauchery is Zongo, a flatulent racing triceratops they purchased for the races. The creature proved hopelessly slow and now serves as their pack animal.

The Treasure Map

In desperation, Gondolo purchased a treasure map from a fever-wracked explorer who needed cash for passage back to Baldur’s Gate. Miraculously, the map accurately indicates the location of Needle’s Bones, though the pair mistakenly believe it will lead to an easily claimed dragon’s hoard.

Characteristics

Faroul (5 feet 10 inches, 175 pounds):

  • Spoiled and pompous
  • Tells great tales of his battle prowess but only uses his shortsword in emergencies
  • More bluster than substance

Gondolo (3 feet 6 inches, 80 pounds):

  • Fancies himself a poet, pugilist, and philosopher
  • Makes up important-sounding facts when he runs out of actual ones
  • Has a knack for narrowly escaping peril
  • Possesses the normal halfling’s luck
