Gowl is a petrified adventurer whose stone form stands in the ruined palace of Nangalore. A male Chultan human scout of neutral good alignment, he came to Nangalore seeking treasure but was turned to stone by the medusa Zalkoré while reaching for a clay urn containing the ashes of Thiru-taya.
Current State
His petrified form is depicted in an exquisitely lifelike statue that captures him mid-reach toward the urn, his face turned toward the balcony with terror frozen in his lifeless eyes. The statue stands beside a much larger stone warrior statue of Thiru-taya that dominates the chamber.
Circumstances of Petrification
Gowl’s fate serves as a warning to other would-be thieves. Scratched into the floor next to his petrified form are words in Old Omuan: “Once a thief, now an ornament!” This inscription was likely left by Zalkoré, who guards the ruins and has transformed Gowl into a cautionary decoration for trespassing in her domain.
