Overview
Ifan Talro’a is a merchant prince of Port Nyanzaru who deals in beasts and beast training. A greedy and conniving noble, he serves as an unwitting collaborator with the yuan-ti of Omu while maintaining his position among the city’s elite through dangerous connections with the Zhentarim.
Characteristics & Personality
- Alignment: Neutral Evil male Chultan human noble
- Temperament: Greedy, conniving, and naturally distrustful of everyone
- Personal life: Has no family and no close relationships
- Emotional state: Jealous of Wakanga O’tamu’s magical power and Ekene-Afa’s arena reputation
Business & Connections
Beast Trade
Talro’a operates a network of merchants throughout Port Nyanzaru who serve dual purposes as spies and sellers of domesticated beasts. His inventory includes creatures suitable as companions, mounts, or pack animals:
- Flying monkey, giant lizard, or hadrosaurus (100 gp)
- Ankylosaurus, deinonychus, or flying snake (250 gp)
- Triceratops (500 gp)
He maintains exclusive control over flying snake sales to the Zhentarim, refusing to sell the messenger-trained serpents to anyone else.
Zhentarim Alliance
Talro’a is supported by influential and dangerous friends among the Zhentarim, giving him political protection and leverage in Port Nyanzaru.
Yuan-ti Connection
The yuan-ti of Omu secretly pay Talro’a to warn them when treasure hunters head south into the deep jungle. He uses flying snakes as messengers for these communications. While he doesn’t know for certain his messages reach yuan-ti, he strongly suspects it.
Villa & Holdings
Talro’a’s villa reflects his interests in Chultan antiquities:
- Decorated throughout with relics and vases plundered from Chultan ruins
- Colorful flying snakes swoop and glide through the spacious hallways
- Like other merchant prince villas, it features defensive walls 8-12 feet tall topped with carnivore teeth, seashells, and broken glass
Interest in Treasure
Talro’a expresses interest in purchasing the Skull Chalice of Ch’gakare if the party recovers it from the Tomb of the Nine Gods. He wants to add it to his private collection of Chultan relics. Denying him this sale would be a grave mistake and might result in the characters receiving an ominous Ytepka Society token.
