Summary

Kwayothé is a neutral evil female Chultan human priest who serves as one of Port Nyanzaru’s seven merchant princes. She controls the legal trade of fruit, wine, ale, tej (honey-fermented drink), oil, perfume, and insect repellent in the city.

Personality & Background

Kwayothé presents as calm and contemplative, though this demeanor carries a vaguely menacing quality. She worships Kossuth, the fire god, and takes pleasure in torturing others—particularly methods involving fire and hot coals. She grew up poor and destitute in Port Nyanzaru’s streets, an experience that forged her deep hatred of nobility and the Chultan royal families.

Game Mechanics

  • Stats: Priest stat block (NE alignment)
  • Equipment: Ring of fire resistance
  • Villa Décor: Her residence reeks of scented perfumes, features bowls of fresh fruit throughout, and maintains lit oil lamps and braziers in honor of Kossuth

Relationships

Consorts: Kwayothé maintains two fiendish companions—Ixis (succubus) and Indar (incubus)—both of whom appear as beautiful Chultans.

Zhanthi: Kwayothé considers fellow merchant prince Zhanthi her mortal enemy. She despises the noblewoman and has grown impatient waiting for her to die naturally. Kwayothé constantly meddles in Zhanthi’s business and family affairs while hiding her contempt. Whether Zhanthi is aware of this hostility remains unclear—if she knows, she shows no sign.

Role in the Adventure

Side Quest Connection: In the “Help a Dyeing Man” side quest, a colorist named Omala seeks Kwayothé’s forgiveness for illegally selling dye made from dancing monkey fruit (which Kwayothé controls). She agrees to pardon Omala only if the party assassinates a guide named Shago at Fort Beluarian within 10 days, with no questions asked and complete secrecy. Failure results in Omala being sentenced to Executioner’s Run.

Treasure Interest: If the party recovers the Skull Chalice of Ch’gakare from the Tomb of the Nine Gods, Kwayothé is one of three merchant princes interested in purchasing it—specifically to melt it down. Refusing her offer could result in receiving an ominous Ytepka Society token (a threat).

Trade Goods

Kwayothé employs traders who produce tej and insect repellent:

  • Tej: 4 cp per mug, 2 sp per gallon cask
  • Insect repellent: Available as incense blocks (1 sp, burns 8 hours, 20-foot radius) or salve (1 gp per gourd, 20 applications, 24 hours protection each)
