Overview

Malkar Stonegrist is an albino dwarf warrior imprisoned in the Hrakhamar fortress by firenewts. He is one of two captured dwarves held in the cells connecting to Wyrmheart Mine.

Condition & Status

When the characters arrive, Malkar is in critical condition:

  • Bound, gagged, and blindfolded
  • Reduced to 1 hit point
  • Suffering from 5 levels of exhaustion
  • Starving and dehydrated
  • Severely traumatized from firenewt torture

Unlike his companion Laz Drumthunder, Malkar has suffered psychological trauma from his ordeal. If his gag is removed, he shudders uncontrollably and screams nonstop. He requires a lesser restoration spell or comparable magic to recover his mental faculties.

Role in the Adventure

The firenewts, who are worshipers of Imix, specifically keep captured dwarves alive longer than other prisoners to torture them for information about Hrakhamar’s foundry tools and machines. Malkar and his companion possess knowledge about the workings of the ancient dwarven fortress that the firenewts seek to extract.

Recovery

If rescued and taken to Sithi Vinecutter, she and her companions will care for both Malkar and Laz. Malkar knows the tunnel from Hrakhamar leads to Wyrmheart Mine but will warn characters about the red dragon Tzindelor who has taken over that location.
