Princess Mwaxanaré is the seventeen-year-old heir to the fallen kingdom of Omu, currently under the protection of the aarakocra at Kir Sabal. She and her six-year-old brother Na are the last living descendants of Omu’s royal families, with their great-grandmother Napaka having been the last ruling queen. Both of her parents are deceased—her father Omek died in a fall and her mother Razaan was killed by pterafolk.

Personality & Worldview

Mwaxanaré is vain, headstrong, and impatient to claim her throne. She speaks condescendingly to everyone except Asharra (the aarakocra elder) and considers herself already the rightful Queen of Chult, viewing the world’s failure to acknowledge this as a fault in others, not herself. Having spent her entire life sheltered at Kir Sabal, her understanding of the outside world is woefully narrow and distorted. She refers to other kingdoms as “principalities” or “holdings,” believes foreign rulers would send thousands of soldiers to her aid instantly, and assumes Port Nyanzaru’s merchant princes will gladly hand over rulership to her. These misconceptions have largely been taught to her by Asharra.

Despite these delusions, Mwaxanaré is not a fool. She is lonely—Na being the only other human at Kir Sabal—and likely to fixate powerfully and jealously on one of the adventurers as a potential romantic partner.

Abilities & Goals

Against Asharra’s wishes, the princess forged a pact with the Wind Dukes of Aaqa to become a fledgling warlock. She detests physical labor and constantly uses her mage hand and unseen servant spells. Her pact has also granted her telepathy, which she enjoys employing.

Her primary goal is to recover the Skull Chalice of Ch’gakare, a jeweled goblet crafted from the skull of an ancient Omuan king that serves as a symbol of office for the royal line. She believes possessing this relic will garner widespread support to repopulate and rebuild Omu. If characters agree to retrieve it, she offers 250 gp worth of treasures from her private collection (located in area 5 of Kir Sabal, the Royal House she shares with Na).

Long-term Aspirations

Mwaxanaré dreams of restoring Omu to its former glory and building a new kingdom there. With the Skull Chalice in her possession, she could potentially win support from Chultans eager to return to the old ways. However, the merchant princes of Port Nyanzaru are unwilling to back her claim, and the yuan-ti occupying Omu won’t surrender the city without a fight. Realizing her dream could take years, if it happens at all. If characters sell the chalice to someone else, she will despise them for it.

Relationship with Asharra

The aarakocra keep Mwaxanaré and Na as “wards” (though they call them guests) with the stated goal of protecting the royal line until Omu’s evil is banished. Asharra secretly hopes the aarakocra will be elevated to key positions in any renewed Chultan kingdom. If Asharra suspects the princess might learn disturbing truths from the adventurers, or that her romantic fixation might lead to tragedy, she views them as dangerous—and Kir Sabal is a precarious place for wingless creatures.
