Na N’buso is a monumental statue standing at the center of Port Nyanzaru’s harbor, representing an ancient Chultan king. Despite depicting a mythic historical figure, the actual statue was erected only five years ago as a political and cultural statement.

Appearance

The statue portrays a Chultan king in traditional full regalia:

  • Loincloth of leopard skin
  • Headdress adorned with feathers, shells, and tyrannosaurus teeth
  • Cape of girallon fur and monkey tails
  • Wielding Chult’s traditional weapons: an oval shield and yklwa

Purpose and Significance

The statue serves as a symbol of Chultan independence and cultural pride. It was commissioned during a period when Port Nyanzaru was asserting its growing mercantile power, specifically to impress foreign visitors with Chult’s glorious history and status as an independent land. Residents refer to it as “Na N’buso, the Great King,” and the statue successfully conveys its intended message to those who see it.
