Queen Napaka is the last reigning monarch of the fallen city of Omu, who died over a century ago sacrificing herself in a failed attempt to save her people from Acererak.
Identity and Legacy
Napaka was the elderly queen of Omu during the city’s fall. She is the great-grandmother of Princess Mwaxanaré (age 17) and Na (age 6), the last living descendants of Omu’s royal line who are currently sheltered at Kir Sabal by the aarakocra. Her grandmother was Zalkoré, who languishes in the ruins of Nangalore.
Final Act
When Acererak slew the trickster gods of Omu and enslaved the city, Napaka chose not to flee. Instead, she offered herself as a sacrifice in exchange for the release of her people. Acererak was impressed by her courage—though not enough to spare her life or honor her request—and placed her in a special crypt within the Tomb of the Nine Gods (area 53). Her bodyguard Lukanu, wearing scorpion armor, was trapped in the Mirror of Life Trapping (cell 11) during the city’s fall.
Beliefs and Knowledge
By the time of her death, Napaka had come to believe that the gods of Omu were not truly divine beings but rather trickster spirits who had fooled the Omuan people into worshiping them. She witnessed Acererak killing the trickster gods and enslaving the Omuans, but knows nothing about the Tomb of the Nine Gods, which was built after her death. She knows a few members of the royal family fled Omu but is unaware her great-grandchildren survive at Kir Sabal.
Even in death, Napaka desires above all the destruction of Acererak and the rebirth and repopulation of Omu.
Tomb and Treasures
Napaka’s crypt (area 53) features a black basalt sarcophagus sealed with melted lead. Her magically preserved remains wear the tattered remnants of a black gown and a hornet mask made of painted gold (worth 250 gp). In her left hand she holds an iron scepter with an adamantine head—a magic weapon specifically created to destroy the stone juggernaut that Acererak named after her.
If her remains or the scepter are disturbed without proper replacement, her corpse exhales baleful black gas (DC 18 Constitution save or take 45/7d12 necrotic damage).
A speak with dead spell allows characters to question her about Omu’s history and Acererak, and she will provide honest answers.
Stone Juggernaut
Acererak created a massive stone juggernaut construct and named it “Napaka” as a cruel jest. The construct is housed in area 62D and serves as a deadly trap. The magic scepter from Queen Napaka’s tomb is the only weapon that can instantly destroy the juggernaut on contact, reducing it to dust.
Historical Reference
A moss-covered stone proclamation tablet (area 11) contains Napaka’s message to her rivals in Mezro, written in both Common and Old Omuan: “Queen Napaka proclaims that the free people of Omu fear nothing. Brave new gods protect us, as Ubtao did before but does no longer. Omu will rise again, and Napaka shall reclaim all that is hers by right of conquest.”
