Needle is a green dragon who has hidden a treasure hoard in a secret alcove in the grotto at Needle’s Bones. The dragon employed a unique security measure for the treasure: the secret door is carved from natural rock, camouflaged as part of the wall, and can only be opened by poison (as Needle breathed poison gas on it) or by magical means like knock.
Treasure Hoard
Needle’s accumulated wealth includes:
- Coins: 55 gp and 800 sp stored in a triceratops hide purse
- Gems: Three blue quartz rings (10 gp each) and two diamonds (500 gp each)
- Magic Items:
- A wand of fear (kept in a box made from two fitted velociraptor skulls worth 12 gp)
- Five +1 sling bullets (stored in a hollow dinosaur bone with a wax plug)
Security Measures
The treasure alcove is protected by a concealed 10-foot-wide, 10-foot-high secret door requiring DC 17 Wisdom (Perception) to detect. The surrounding plants have been killed by poison exposure, which can be identified with a DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) or Wisdom (Medicine) check. The door mechanism responds to poison contact or magical opening.
