Omala is a master colorist who works at Port Nyanzaru’s dye works (area 23). He recently made a serious mistake by purchasing dancing monkey fruit on the black market and using them to create and sell dye. This act violated the merchant princes’ control over the legal fruit trade, and he received an iron token from the Ytepka Society—a grim warning that his crime has been noticed.

Current Situation

Desperate to atone for his transgression, Omala seeks an audience with Kwayothé, the merchant prince who controls the legal sale of dancing monkey fruit. Fearing for his life, he asks the adventurers to escort him to Goldenthrone (area 4) where he plans to beg for Kwayothé’s forgiveness. He has no money to offer as payment for this protection.

Kwayothé’s Bargain

Kwayothé is willing to forgive Omala’s crime, but only if the adventurers agree to kill a wilderness guide named Shago within 10 days—no questions asked—and speak of the deed to no one. Shago works as a guide out of Fort Beluarian. If the characters fail to complete this assassination within the time limit, Kwayothé has Omala sentenced to Executioner’s Run (area 2), which is essentially a death sentence.

Role in Adventure

Omala serves as the trigger for the “Help a Dyeing Man” side quest in Port Nyanzaru. His predicament forces characters to make a moral choice: help an innocent man by committing murder, refuse and condemn him to death, or find a third option. The situation also introduces the power and reach of both the merchant princes and the Ytepka Society.
