Orvex Ocrammas is a human scribe and translator employed by the Red Wizards of Thay who becomes trapped in Omu during a yuan-ti attack on the Red Wizards’ expedition. He is found buried under rubble in the walled compound (area 2), crying out for help while dying of thirst and exhaustion.
Role and Background
Orvex serves the Red Wizards primarily for financial reasons, describing himself as pragmatic rather than ideologically aligned with them. A balding man in his early forties, he possesses extensive knowledge of Old Omuan language and history through his study of the city’s ancient carvings.
Capabilities
- Languages: Common, Grung, and can translate Old Omuan
- Knowledge: Has learned the legend of the nine trickster gods through his research in Omu
- Statistics: Uses spy statistics (neutral alignment)
- Initial Condition: When rescued, has only 3 hit points and 3 levels of exhaustion
Relationship with Adventurers
If freed and befriended by the characters, Orvex eagerly joins their party seeking sanctuary. He can facilitate negotiations with any surviving Red Wizards and provides crucial information about Omu’s history, including recounting the legend of the nine trickster gods once he recovers. Despite witnessing the dangers of Omu firsthand, he remains enthusiastic about exploring the city and uncovering its secrets.
If still accompanying the party when all nine puzzle cubes are recovered, Orvex eagerly volunteers to descend into the Tomb of the Nine Gods with them, demonstrating his scholarly dedication and courage (or perhaps recklessness).
