Peggy Deadbells is one of the three night hags known as the Sewn Sisters, recruited by Acererak for their expertise in stitching soul bags—a craft they adapted to create the Soulmonger. She is encountered in area 71 of the Tomb of the Nine Gods.
Appearance and Characteristics
Peggy wears a string of chattering children’s teeth around her neck and thumps about on a heavy peg leg. When she laughs, yellow gas billows out of her nose and ears. This distinctive appearance makes her immediately recognizable among the three hags.
Possessions
Peggy carries several important items:
- A pouch made from gnome skin worn around her neck, containing a heartstone and five lustrous black marbles
- A soul bag tied to her rope belt
The black marbles she carries have a specific function: when tossed into the pool in area 81, they activate an ooze obelisk that can teleport creatures out of the tomb to area 1.
Hag Coven Abilities
As part of the Sewn Sisters coven (along with Widow Groat and Baggy Nanna), Peggy shares access to a pool of coven spells. The coven’s hag eye is carried by Mister Threadneedle the scarecrow in area 74.
Magical Feast
In area 71, Peggy is associated with the squash stew served at the magical feast. Any character who eats this stew gains advantage on Constitution saving throws for 24 hours but suffers disadvantage on attack rolls made against Peggy Deadbells for the same duration.
