Sekelok is Ras Nsi’s trusted bodyguard and champion—a tall, muscular yuan-ti pureblood who takes grim pleasure in slaughtering his master’s enemies. He stands guard in the throne room (area 11) during the day, and Ras Nsi delights in forcing those who offend him to duel Sekelok, either to the first cut or to the death.
Role in the Fane
Sekelok is one of the most powerful figures in the temple hierarchy. He is one of only three individuals (along with Ras Nsi and Fenthaza) who knows the armory’s command phrase (“white feather”). His influence has been growing as Fenthaza’s visions have led her to doubt Ras Nsi’s capabilities—Ras Nsi has started ceding more power to his champion.
Secret Affair
Sekelok conducts a dangerous secret affair with Neema, one of Ras Nsi’s concubines in the harem (area 10). He visits her in the dead of night, and Neema browbeats the other concubines to cover up their relationship. His motivations are confused: while he remains staunchly loyal to Ras Nsi, the subterfuge fuels his ego. If Ras Nsi discovers the affair, he will flay both parties alive for their betrayal and feed them to his pet hydra.
The doppelganger spy in the harem has learned about this affair by eavesdropping on Sekelok and Neema’s intimate conversations, and suggests that characters could break into Ras Nsi’s lair when Sekelok next visits the harem.
Possessions
A tortoise-shell shield hanging in the armory (area 4) belongs to Sekelok. The shield has a minor magical property that amplifies the bearer’s voice to ten times its normal volume. Only Sekelok is allowed to touch it—if anyone removes it from the wall, the bone naga Ukurlahmu will demand its return and attack if the instruction is ignored.
Combat Statistics
Sekelok uses the statistics of a champion (see appendix D), with these modifications:
- Alignment: Neutral evil
- Armor Class: 18 (natural armor—his scales are as hard as steel)
- Damage Immunities: Poison
- Condition Immunities: Poisoned
- Senses: Darkvision 60 ft.
- Languages: Abyssal, Common, Draconic
- Magic Resistance: Advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects
Innate Spellcasting
Spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13). He can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
- At will: animal friendship (snakes only), poison spray
- 3/day: suggestion
Typical Location
During the day, Sekelok stands guard in the throne room (area 11) alongside two type 1 yuan-ti malisons, three yuan-ti broodguards, and four ghouls. At night, he remains in the throne room when Ras Nsi retires to area 12, though he sometimes sneaks off to the harem. If the gong in area 9 is struck, Sekelok and the other yuan-ti investigate while the ghouls hide behind the throne.
