Seward is a deceased Chondathan human ranger who was a member of the Company of the Yellow Banner, an adventuring party that perished while exploring the Tomb of the Nine Gods. The company traveled through Chult from Kitcher’s Inlet, following the River Olung to Lake Luo before heading southwest toward Omu, where they collected puzzle cubes and eventually discovered the tomb’s true entrance.

Fate in the Tomb

Seward died within the Tomb of the Nine Gods. The tomb dwarves recovered his body and used it as raw material in their forge, combining his remains with those of other slain adventurers to create a tomb guardian—a flesh golem encased in plate armor (AC 17) wearing a bucket helm. This undead construct is mindless and attacks intruders on sight. Characters encounter this guardian as it emerges from the iron kiln in area 27 of the tomb.

Equipment

Seward carried a ghost lantern (see appendix C), which can be found on a bench near the forge where his body was processed. The lantern contains the trapped spirit of the Starfallen, a female moon elf warlock who died nearly a thousand years ago. The Company of the Yellow Banner had been questing to restore the Starfallen to life using the legendary Eye of Zaltec, but they all perished before finding it.

Company of the Yellow Banner

Seward’s companions included:

  • Lord Brixton (Cormyrean knight)
  • Bravus Boulderborn (gold dwarf cleric of Moradin)
  • Sephirius (“Seph”) (dragonborn paladin)
  • Devlin (who kept the company’s journal)

Details of the company’s exploits can be found in Devlin’s journal, discovered elsewhere in the tomb.
