Sune is the goddess of love and beauty, one of several foreign deities whose worship has taken root in Chult following Ubtao’s abandonment of the region over a century ago. She is particularly popular in Port Nyanzaru, where merchants and missionaries have introduced deities from distant civilizations.

Temple of Sune

The Temple of Sune occupies a striking location atop a rocky sea formation in Port Nyanzaru’s Merchants Ward, accessible only via an elevated causeway from Temple Hill or by boat. The temple features an architectural illusion where mirrors lining the exterior walls create the appearance that the roof floats in midair when viewed from a distance.

Services and Activities

The temple functions as both a religious site and a social center, offering:

  • Public baths
  • Lessons in makeup application and hairstyling
  • Fashion consultation tailored to individual body types, professions, and climate

Reception of Visitors

Newcomers to the temple undergo an informal assessment (Charisma check):

  • DC 15+: Welcomed warmly as “brothers and sisters of Sune”
  • DC 10-14: Offered friendly advice on improving their presentation
  • DC 9 or less: Greeted with sympathetic looks and surrounded by coddling devotees

Religious Context

While most of the temple’s clergy are now Chultans, the worship of Sune represents the legacy of foreign missionaries who came to Chult. Though these missionaries often exploited Chultans and their land for profit (leading to conflicts), their introduced deities have been adopted by the local population. Foreign clerics who proselytize too energetically are not welcomed in Port Nyanzaru today.
