Tymora is a goddess worshiped in Chult, known as “the Lady” and associated with good fortune. She represents one of the foreign deities adopted by Chultans after their patron god Ubtao abandoned them over a century ago.
Worship in Port Nyanzaru
Tymora has an established presence in the city through her temple in Malar’s Throat. The temple is built as a sturdy stone blockhouse—not elegant, but practical. It serves as a refuge for residents during floods or undead attacks, providing sanctuary when there’s no time to reach the main city. The people of Malar’s Throat, while not considering themselves particularly lucky, credit whatever fortune they have to the Lady’s presence among them.
Cultural Context
Tymora is one of several foreign deities introduced to Chult by missionaries from distant lands. Along with Waukeen (goddess of trade), Gond (god of craft), Savras (god of divination and fate), and Sune (goddess of love and beauty), these gods gained followers after Ubtao’s departure. While foreign missionaries initially spread these faiths—sometimes exploiting Chultans in the process—most clergy positions are now held by Chultans themselves.
In the Adventure
Tymora’s influence appears primarily through her devoted followers. Among the yuan-ti prisoners in the Fane of the Night Serpent is Tahvo, a ten-year-old Chultan boy who wears a flower garland and prays constantly to Tymora while awaiting sacrifice to Dendar the Night Serpent.
