Tzindelor is a female young red dragon who claims Wyrmheart Mine as her lair and terrorizes the surrounding volcanic regions of Chult. She is better known by the nickname “Tinder” given to her by her kobold followers.
Domain and Territory
Tinder conquered Wyrmheart Mine from a clan of shield dwarves forty years ago, killing many in the battle (their charred bones still litter the mine). She now rules over a following of kobolds who have rigged the mine with numerous traps. The dragon spends most of her time sleeping atop her treasure hoard at the bottom of the mine shaft, though she periodically leaves to hunt.
Her hunting grounds extend across the Land of Ash and Smoke, where she bathes in lava streams, and through Ataaz Yklwazi (Gorge of Blades), where the terrain is littered with charred skeletons of her victims. Her territorial influence reaches into the Valley of Lost Honor, where even the firenewts of Hrakhamar begrudgingly respect her might and authority. Both sides covet what the other possesses—Tinder wants Hrakhamar, while the firenewts desire the iron resources of Wyrmheart Mine—but they currently leave each other alone.
Personality and Behavior
Being young, Tinder still has much to learn about the world and is curious about it. She is inclined to kill anyone she doesn’t recognize but might converse with adventurers who have something interesting to say. If flattered and offered sufficient tribute (at least 500 gp worth of offerings), she can provide basic directions to any landmark within 100 miles of Wyrmheart Mine.
She knows the location of Omu, making her one of the few creatures in Chult with this critical knowledge for the adventurers’ quest.
Tinder loves using her breath weapon and watching her prey scream and burn in flames. In desperate situations, she’s confident she can escape by flying up the mine shaft faster than pursuers can follow.
Combat Tactics
The dragon cannot be surprised if her kobolds have triggered the boulder trap in area 10 of Wyrmheart Mine, and she easily hears ore carts rolling down tracks or loud spells cast anywhere in the complex. Characters approaching from area 12 have improved stealth chances due to the loud waterfall there (advantage on Stealth checks or Tinder has disadvantage on Perception checks).
Treasure
Her hoard contains 3,300 gp, 15,000 sp, 45,000 cp, a gold-embroidered scabbard (25 gp), a gold dragon-shaped medal and chain (50 gp), a copper mug with jade inlay (100 gp), and a potion of greater healing. Nearby crates and barrels hold 1d12 each of dwarf-made breastplates, helmets, shields, warhammers, and battleaxes. One battleaxe is actually Bob, a +1 battleaxe that floats on liquids and grants advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks to swim, with its name etched in Dwarvish runes on the haft.
