Voltan is the first mate aboard the pirate ship Emerald Eye, one of three vessels operating out of Jahaka Anchorage. He serves under Captain Zaroum Al-Saryak, the calculating Calishite captain known for his fondness for gemstones and brutal methods.
Role & Characteristics
Voltan is a Calishite human berserker of chaotic evil alignment. As first mate, he is second-in-command on the Emerald Eye and helps lead a crew consisting of twelve Calishite bandits, two Calishite thugs, and five Chultan tribal warriors.
Context
The three pirate crews at Jahaka Anchorage (the Emerald Eye, Dragonfang, and Stirge) operate in a tenuous alliance, using the hidden sea cave anchorage as a base for their raids. They have a profitable arrangement with Liara Portyr of Fort Beluarian, who provides intelligence about merchant vessels and naval patrols in exchange for a share of profits. The pirates are fanatical about protecting the location of their base, attacking any ship that comes within visual range and killing or capturing anyone who stumbles upon the anchorage from land or sea.
