Zuggtmoy is the demon queen of fungi, secretly worshiped by a yuan-ti pureblood named Kukuga within the Fane of the Night Serpent. Despite the yuan-ti’s official devotion to Dendar the Night Serpent, Kukuga conducted heretical worship of Zuggtmoy in secret.
Death and Legacy
Kukuga attempted to transform his body into a form resembling his demonic mistress by consuming a fungal brew of his own creation. The experiment failed catastrophically, resulting in his sudden and horrific death. His malformed skeleton now lies in the fungi cavern (area 22), buried under a patch of buttery yellow mold—a fitting end for a worshiper of the fungal demon queen.
Location
Kukuga’s corpse remains in the fungi cavern, where Xopal (from area 14) occasionally visits to harvest poisonous toadstools that grow on the body. The skeleton wears a brass key around its neck that unlocks the venom distillery.
