The Emerald Enclave is a widespread faction of wilderness survivalists dedicated to preserving the natural order by rooting out unnatural threats and maintaining balance between civilization and the wilderness.

Role in Chult

In the Tomb of Annihilation adventure, the Emerald Enclave focuses primarily on protecting inhabitants from the undead menace plaguing the region. They maintain several well-camouflaged outposts throughout the jungle that serve as hidden observation posts rather than forward fighting positions. The faction can serve as potential rescuers if characters encounter trouble in the wilderness.

Members and Guides

Several guides in Port Nyanzaru and Fort Beluarian are openly associated with the Emerald Enclave, while others are secret members or sympathetic to its goals.

Qawasha and Kupalué

The most prominent Emerald Enclave member is Qawasha (NG male Chultan druid), based at Fort Beluarian. He travels with a vegepygmy companion named Kupalué (nicknamed “Weed”), and they communicate using their own unique sign language.

Characteristics:

  • Stands 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds
  • Deliberately leads adventurers through undead-infested regions to combat the undead menace
  • Calls out names of unusual flora and fauna while traveling
  • Has a knack for camping where chwingas dwell and experience dealing with elemental spirits
  • Recommends purchasing a charter of exploration before leaving Fort Beluarian

Kupalué stands 3 feet tall and weighs about 30 pounds dry (50 pounds wet).

Relationship with Fort Beluarian

The Emerald Enclave maintains a presence at Fort Beluarian, where expert guides like Qawasha are stationed. The faction operates alongside other factions present at the fort, including the Lords’ Alliance, though their primary focus remains on natural threats and the undead crisis affecting Chult.
