The Lords’ Alliance is a coalition of cities and settlements working to eliminate mutual threats and promote prosperity. While united in purpose, the alliance is characterized by internal competition, with member cities and their operatives often prioritizing their own interests over collective goals.
Role in Chult
The Lords’ Alliance maintains an active presence in Chult to counter rival powers like Calimshan, Amn, and Tethyr from expanding control over the region’s resources. Member cities including Waterdeep and Neverwinter operate both openly (through self-styled ambassadors) and covertly (through secret agents) in Port Nyanzaru. The alliance sponsors mapping expeditions into the peninsula seeking treasures and mineral deposits to exploit.
Key Leadership
Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard of Baldur’s Gate is a prominent alliance figure. However, he would prioritize Baldur’s Gate’s interests over the alliance if necessary. His vassal, Liara Portyr, commands Fort Beluarian under the Baldur’s Gate flag, though Liara secretly conspires with pirates for personal profit.
Fort Beluarian
Fort Beluarian serves as the alliance’s military stronghold in Chult, garrisoned by Flaming Fist mercenaries. The fort claims territory east of the Mistcliff and north of Kitcher’s Inlet (attempting to expand south to Refuge Bay). Baldur’s Gate enforces its territorial claims by requiring explorers to purchase “charters of exploration” (50 gp) granting permission to explore and plunder, though half of all discoveries must be turned over to the Flaming Fist.
Alliance operatives are embedded within the garrison alongside Emerald Enclave guides like the druid Qawasha.
Services for Adventurers
Lerek Dashlynd (LN male Illuskan human spy), a Lords’ Alliance agent in Port Nyanzaru, offers a sailing ship in exchange for an accurate map showing the locations of Nangalore and Orolunga. He uses divination magic to verify authenticity before completing the trade, with the ship arriving 10 days after agreement.
