The Brazen Pegasus is a fast 60-foot sloop available for hire in Port Nyanzaru’s Harbor Ward. The vessel features a single mast with a square mainsail, two triangular foresails, one aft sail, and a small topsail, giving her an impressive top speed of 10 mph under ideal conditions—fast enough to outrun most pirate ships in Chultan waters.
Crew
The ship is captained by Ortimay Swift and Dark, a clever and calm rock gnome bandit captain with darkvision. Her first mate is Grig Ruddell, a hulking, taciturn Illuskan veteran whose face is mostly hidden behind a heavy gray-streaked beard. The crew consists of six additional sailors of various ethnicities.
Services & Cost
Characters can book passage on the Brazen Pegasus for 10 gp per day for the entire party. Captain Ortimay is happy to take adventurers wherever they need to go, though she expects them to provide tribute for the dragon turtle in the Bay of Chult.
Operations
The ship’s main business is smuggling, though Captain Ortimay doesn’t hide this from passengers. She is knowledgeable about the dangers of sailing Chultan waters, including both the dragon turtle threat and pirate activity.
Ship Layout
The main deck has no permanent shelters or cabins, though a tarp can be rigged for shade. Sailors sleep on deck in good weather. The lower deck contains Captain Ortimay’s cabin and a cargo hold that doubles as the crew’s cooking, eating, and sleeping quarters during foul weather.
Notable Threat
The Brazen Pegasus is one of the few vessels fast enough to escape the pirates of Jahaka Anchorage if spotted near their hidden base. The anchorage’s policy is to attack and chase any ship that sails within visual distance to protect the location’s secrecy, but the Brazen Pegasus has a good chance of outrunning pursuit thanks to her superior speed.
