Description
The crystal eyes are nonmagical glass eyeballs, each 1 inch in diameter, found in various locations throughout the Tomb of the Nine Gods. They come in multiple colors including pale purple, bright green, pearly white, scarlet, pale green, and pink.
Purpose
The crystal eyes serve as keys—ten are needed to open the vault of the beholder in area 44 of the tomb. Collecting all ten is necessary to progress through this section of the dungeon.
Locations
The crystal eyes are scattered throughout Level 3 (Vault of Reflection) of the tomb:
- Area 31A (Hidden Alcoves): Two eyes (pale purple and bright green) rest on plinths behind illusory walls depicting hawk-headed female warriors
- Area 37 (Winds of Pandemonium): A statue clutches two eyes (pearly white in left hand, scarlet in right hand)
- Area 39 (Golem Pit): Two eyes (pale green and pink) are found in a chest resting on a red cushion
Game Mechanics
The crystal eyes are nonmagical objects with no special properties beyond serving as keys to the beholder’s vault. Characters must collect them from their various locations to access area 44.
