Dragonfang is one of three pirate ships that operate from Jahaka Anchorage, a hidden pirate haven inside a sea cave on Chult’s coast. The ship is a sailing vessel that preys on merchant ships traveling to and from the Bay of Chult.
Captain and Crew
The Dragonfang is commanded by Captain Elok Jaharwon, a Chultan human wereboar with no patience or sense of humor. Elok seized command approximately a year ago through mutiny, throwing the previous captain overboard. His aggressive leadership style continues to create tension with the other pirate captains.
The crew consists of:
- Kalita - First mate (spy)
- Fifteen Chultan bandits
- Three Chultan thugs
- Eye of the Deep - A Calishite human druid known as the ship’s “sea witch”
Political Position
Elok Jaharwon advocates for ending the pirates’ profit-sharing arrangement with Fort Beluarian commander Liara Portyr, which would terminate their lucrative alliance. While this would allow pirates to keep more profits, the other captains recognize it would result in fewer prizes and increased risk. Despite opposition from the other captains, Jaharwon is building support among rank-and-file pirates across all three crews.
Alliance Operations
The Dragonfang operates as part of a three-ship confederation with the Emerald Eye and the Stirge. The alliance benefits from:
- Intelligence from Liara Portyr about vessels entering and leaving Port Nyanzaru
- Assistance selling stolen cargo
- Advance warning of naval patrols via sending stone
- Generally avoiding ships flying Baldur’s Gate ensigns
Bounty
The harbormaster Zindar, working with the Ytepka Society, offers a bounty of 2,000 gp for the Dragonfang’s capture and delivery to port, plus an additional 500 gp for Captain Jaharwon’s capture.
Notable Connection
Zilla Atazi, a former Dragonfang crew member, was thrown overboard by Captain Jaharwon for insubordination. She survived, washed ashore, and was subsequently captured by yuan-ti, ending up as a prisoner in the Fane of the Night Serpent.
