Description
Nolzur’s marvelous pigments is a box of magical paints discovered by Krr’ook, the grung shaman of Dungrunglung. She hid them from King Groak and keeps them secret until she can use them to execute a desperate plan.
Role in the Adventure
The pigments are central to Krr’ook’s scheme to deceive King Groak during the “Great Ritual,” a ceremony where the delusional king expects the goddess Nangnang to materialize and profess her love for him. Fearing the ritual will fail and result in catastrophic consequences, Krr’ook plans to use the pigments to create a convincing representation of Nangnang.
Krr’ook offers the pigments as a reward to adventurers if they help her successfully fool the king with a painted image of Nangnang. She also offers a ring of jumping as an additional reward.
Game Mechanics
When used to paint a representation of Nangnang, the pigments grant advantage on the DC 12 Intelligence check required to create a convincing image of the goddess. This is the first of four sequential checks the party must make to successfully execute the deception—they must succeed at three or more checks total to fool King Groak.
If the deception succeeds, the king is thoroughly duped and will provide help to the characters without question. If the trickery is discovered, King Groak orders a massive assault by his grung warriors.
