Overview
The ring of protection is a magical item found in Obo’laka’s tomb within the Tomb of the Nine Gods. It serves as the vessel for Obo’laka’s trickster god spirit.
Location & Discovery
The ring rests atop a pile of zorbo bones (Obo’laka’s animal form) inside the sarcophagus in Obo’laka’s tomb.
Properties & Mechanics
- Functions as a standard ring of protection (providing AC and saving throw bonuses)
- Cursed: The ring turns to dust and is destroyed if it leaves the Tomb of the Nine Gods
- Exception: Can be recovered through the “Lost Treasures” rules
Spirit Inhabitation
When any character touches the ring, Obo’laka’s spirit attempts to inhabit them. The dust swirls into the ghostly shape of a small, feral, bear-like creature that billows toward the character with a roar.
If the inhabitation succeeds, the character receives Obo’laka’s card (appendix F) and gains the trickster god’s traits and abilities. If the attempt fails, the spirit returns to the ring and waits for another character to touch it.
