The Star Goddess is a 90-foot wooden skyship from Halruaa that crashed in the Chultan jungle while on an aerial exploration mission. The vessel functioned like a blimp, kept aloft by a lighter-than-air gasbag.

The Crash

The ship was attacked by a flock of pterafolk who slashed the airbag, causing it to plummet into the jungle canopy. The wooden gondola broke into three pieces that now hang precariously in the treetops at different heights: the stern section dangles about 50 feet above ground, the middle section sits 15 feet higher, and the bow is wedged firmly in branches another 10 feet above that. The deflated balloon remains tangled in the branches overhead.

The crash occurred within 3d10 days before the adventure’s present time. The wreckage is visible from high vantage points—characters ascending to Mbala who succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom (Perception) check can spot it in the jungle beyond the plateaus to the south.

Location & Access

The wreck site is located in the jungle south of Mbala. The albino dwarves of Hrakhamar know its location and offer to lead characters there as a reward for clearing firenewts from their ancestral forge (along with refined adamantine).

Climbing to the wreckage is relatively easy due to abundant vines and hanging rigging lines. A DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check allows access from ground level and movement between ship sections. Alternatively, characters can jump down between sections with a DC 10 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check.

Survivors

At least one crew member survived: when characters approach, a weak voice calls out asking for help. Oloma Authdamar, a former crew member and Turami human scout, escaped the crash by leaping from a porthole but was subsequently captured by yuan-ti in the jungle and imprisoned in the Fane of the Night Serpent (area 8). She carries a concealed dagger despite her captivity.

Contents

The Star Goddess holds no treasure, and the crash site contains only salvageable basic equipment: weapons, clothing, and enough supplies to assemble one explorer’s pack and one priest’s pack from the debris.

Intelligence Value

Characters seeking information about Omu’s location may learn that the Star Goddess crash survivors possess this knowledge—though finding and rescuing them from yuan-ti captivity would be necessary to obtain it.
