Calimport is a distant city in the northern regions, far from Chult. It represents one of several urban centers where Chultan migrants have established outposts after leaving their jungle homeland.
Role in the Adventure
Calimport appears primarily as background context rather than a location characters visit. It serves to illustrate the diaspora of Chultan people who fled the jungle’s dangers and spread throughout the southern ocean’s trading network.
Historical Connections
The city has historical significance as the home of a ruling syl-pasha whose daughter received the Navel of the Moon as a gift. This powerful magical artifact—said to be carved from a chunk of the moon—allows its holder to always find their way home to loved ones. The stone eventually made its way to Omu’s Tomb of the Nine Gods, where it remains hidden in a grandfather clock (area 56).
Cultural Context
Calimport is listed alongside other major cities (Athkatla, Baldur’s Gate, Memnon, and Zazesspur) as destinations where Chultans migrated northward. These outposts allowed displaced Chultans to maintain trading connections and establish new lives outside their ancestral homeland after monsters and undead drove them from the jungle.
