Overview

Faerûn is the primary continent in the Dungeons & Dragons setting where the Tomb of Annihilation adventure takes place. It serves as the broader geographical and cultural context for the adventure’s events.

Cultural Context

The region is home to various cultural traditions and social structures that influence local customs. Among these are systems of heraldry and identity markers - Faerûn’s noble knights use coats of arms as identifying symbols and marks of status. This cultural practice provides a parallel to similar identity systems found in other societies within the same world, such as the war masks used by the Batiri goblin tribes of Chult, which serve an analogous purpose of identification and status display in combat.

Relationship to the Adventure

While Faerûn is the larger setting, the Tomb of Annihilation adventure focuses specifically on the jungle peninsula of Chult, a region within Faerûn. The continent represents the wider world from which adventurers may come and to which they might compare local customs and practices they encounter during their expedition.
