Goldenthrone is the opulent palace that serves as the seat of government and meeting place for Port Nyanzaru’s seven merchant princes. The structure was built decades ago by an Amnian trader and stands as one of the most impressive buildings in the city, rivaled only by major temples and the merchant princes’ personal villas. It sits atop Throne Hill, connected by a stone bridge to Temple Hill to the west.

Function and Access

The palace functions as the central hub of Port Nyanzaru’s governance, where the seven merchant princes conduct city business with equal voting power. An honor guard of eight Chultan gladiators maintains constant watch to deter loiterers during the day and thieves at night.

Goldenthrone is the best location to meet any merchant prince without a prior appointment, as they rarely receive unannounced visitors at their private villas. During daylight hours, each merchant prince has a 1-in-6 chance of being present, accompanied by their retinue of aides and guards. Visitors typically wait 1d3 hours before being granted an audience—a deliberate delay meant to emphasize the princes’ authority rather than reflect actual scheduling conflicts, as the princes have few day-to-day administrative duties.

Characters may be directed to Goldenthrone as part of side quests, such as when accompanying Omala, a dye works colorist who needs to seek Kwayothé’s forgiveness for illegally trading in dancing monkey fruit. In such cases, the merchant prince Kwayothé may demand services in exchange for clemency, demonstrating how the merchant princes wield their power from this seat of authority.
