The Golem Pit is a trap chamber in the Tomb of the Nine Gods featuring a 15-foot-wide, 15-foot-deep pit protected by an invisible wall of force. The pit contains a clay golem and a stone treasure chest.

Description

At the bottom of the pit stands an 8-foot-tall clay figure (clay golem) holding a silver key on a cord around its neck. The key presumably unlocks the stone treasure chest positioned beside the golem. An invisible wall of force (equivalent to the wall of force spell) covers the top of the pit, preventing direct access to the contents below.

Interactive Statues

Two 9-foot-tall stone statues stand atop plinths on either side of the pit, with a third empty plinth against the south wall:

  • Hooded, bearded figure: Left hand raised with index finger pointed upward
  • Armored knight: Right gauntleted hand extended with palm facing inward

Mechanics

The statues can be manipulated to control teleportation effects within the room. Characters can use the statues to either:

  • Teleport the clay golem from the pit up to their level
  • Send one of their own party members down into the pit

This creates a tactical puzzle where parties must decide whether to face the golem directly or attempt to send someone into the pit to retrieve the treasure while bypassing the construct.
