The Harbor Ward is Port Nyanzaru’s primary maritime district, serving as the arrival point and gateway to the city for many adventurers.
Location and Features
The Harbor Ward contains Port Nyanzaru’s extensive docks, which can accommodate ships of all sizes. The harbor is divided into two sections: an enclosed eastern portion reserved exclusively for the merchant princes’ use, and the remainder which is available to any vessel. The harbormaster’s office (area 13) is located within this district.
When Syndra Silvane teleports characters to Port Nyanzaru, she chooses the Harbor Ward as the arrival point, specifically an outdoor location near the docks. She knows this area well enough to arrive on target with her teleportation spell.
Atmosphere
Upon arrival in the Harbor Ward, visitors are immediately immersed in a sensory experience: the sounds of creaking ropes, slapping waves, and heavy barrels rolling across cobblestones mix with voices speaking Chultan. The smells of fish, tar, and canvas blend with exotic spices and tropical fruit. Like the rest of Port Nyanzaru, the district features brightly painted buildings in vivid colors (blue, green, orange, salmon pink), adorned with murals, flowers, and vines.
Sea Travel
The Harbor Ward serves as the departure point for maritime expeditions. Characters seeking sea travel can book passage on the Brazen Pegasus, a 60-foot sloop docked here. The ship costs 10 gp per day for the entire party and can reach speeds of 10 mph under ideal conditions. She is captained by Ortimay Swift and Dark, a clever rock gnome whose primary business is smuggling but who readily transports adventurers. The crew consists of first mate Grig Ruddell and six sailors.
Captain Ortimay is aware of the dragon turtle in the Bay of Chult (expecting passengers to provide tribute) and the pirates prowling Chultan waters, though her ship can outrun most threats.
