Overview
Ishau is a sunken coastal settlement in Chult that now rests completely underwater in Refuge Bay, a few miles from shore. The village sank into the sea during the Spellplague but remains largely intact beneath the waves.
Location Details
The ruins sit in Refuge Bay, more than a mile from the white sand beach where many Chultan explorations have historically begun. The stone buildings are fully submerged but still structurally sound, creating an underwater environment of sunken streets and drowned structures.
Dangers
The sunken village hosts multiple aquatic predators competing for dominance:
- Hunter sharks and reef sharks glide among the ruins
- Plesiosauruses vie with the sharks as top predators
- Sea hags are the most feared inhabitants, periodically scouring the ruins for human remains and waterlogged trinkets. All other predators avoid these hags.
Historical Context
Ishau once stood as a functioning Chultan town at the head of Refuge Bay. During the Spellplague, its foundations sank into the sea, transforming the settlement from a coastal starting point for expeditions into a dangerous underwater ruin.
