Jahaka Bay is a large coastal bay on the western shore of Chult that serves as the primary access point and hiding place for pirates operating in the region. The bay connects to the interior through the River Tath, which plunges down multiple waterfalls before emptying into the bay.

Geography and Environment

The bay measures approximately 20 miles wide and 40 miles deep. Perpetual mist drifts across the water, created by the waterfalls where the River Tath enters the bay. While not especially heavy, this mist accumulates over distance and restricts visibility to only 2-3 miles for ships and other fine details, though the outline of the coastal mountains remains visible from any distance. This limited visibility makes the bay an excellent hiding spot.

Strategic Importance

Pirate ships regularly enter and leave Jahaka Bay as they travel to and from Jahaka Anchorage, the pirate settlement hidden within the bay. The combination of the bay’s size and the persistent mist makes it nearly impossible for ships to stumble upon the anchorage by accident—vessels must know precisely where to look to find the pirate base.

Connections

  • River Tath: Flows into the bay from the east, originating from the Aldani Basin and passing through the canyon of Ataaz Kahakla
  • Jahaka Anchorage: The pirate settlement concealed somewhere within the bay

As a Starting Point

The bay serves as one of several potential coastal landing sites for expeditions into Chult’s interior, offering an alternative starting point to Port Nyanzaru for adventurers willing to travel by ship.
