Kitcher’s Inlet is a shallow bay on Chult’s eastern coast where the River Olung meets the sea. It serves as a coastal access point for inland expeditions toward the ruins of Port Castigliar and Mezro.

Location and Access

The inlet is named after Ilyber Kitcher, a pompous Cormyrean explorer who falsely claimed to have discovered it centuries ago. In reality, the inlet was well known before Kitcher accidentally sailed down the eastern coast after missing the Bay of Chult due to his poor navigation skills. Despite its unremarkable appearance, the inlet provides valuable river access for explorers traveling inland.

Strategic Importance

The inlet marks a significant territorial boundary in Chult’s colonial politics. Baldur’s Gate claims all territory east of the Mistcliff and north of Kitcher’s Inlet, enforcing this claim through Fort Beluarian and requiring explorers to purchase charters of exploration (50 gp) to operate legally in the region. The Flaming Fist is attempting to extend this territorial claim southward to Refuge Bay.

Adventurers can reach the inlet by ship from Port Nyanzaru as one of several coastal landing sites for expeditions into Chult’s interior. From Kitcher’s Inlet, expeditions can follow the River Olung upstream to Lake Luo and then strike southwest toward Omu, as documented in Devlin’s journal from the Company of the Yellow Banner expedition.

Frost Giant Presence

The frost giant longship Hvalspyd is anchored 70 miles north of Kitcher’s Inlet, making the area potentially dangerous for coastal travelers. Twenty frost giants led by Captain Drufi are scouring the jungle in this region, searching for Artus Cimber and the Ring of Winter on behalf of Jarl Storvald. Their presence has been detected by Flaming Fist patrols, though the two groups have not yet directly encountered each other.
