Mistcliff is a massive natural barrier along Chult’s western coastline—a 1,000-foot-high volcanic rock wall stretching 200 miles with no beach access, only jagged rocks and violent surf.

Geography

The cliffs are utterly inhospitable to maritime approach, with sheer drops meeting treacherous waters below. The dramatic elevation and hostile coastline make this an effective natural boundary for territorial claims in the region.

Inhabitants

The Mistcliff hosts large aarakocra settlements along its heights, taking advantage of the remote, elevated terrain. Nests of pteranodons and quetzalcoatluses also populate the cliffs, making the area dangerous even for aerial approach.

Political Significance

The Mistcliff serves as the western boundary marker for Baldur’s Gate’s territorial claims in Chult. Fort Beluarian asserts authority over all lands “east of the Mistcliff and north of Kitcher’s Inlet,” using this prominent geographic feature as a clear demarcation line for their sphere of influence. The Flaming Fist enforces these claims by requiring explorers in their territory to purchase charters of exploration.
