The Nsi Wastes is a vast, blighted jungle region that never recovered from an ancient magical catastrophe. The entire area is characterized by sickly, poisonous plant life, making it an inhospitable and dangerous place to traverse.
Historical Significance
At the heart of the wasteland lie the ruins of Ras Nsi’s former palace—a once-mighty fortress that stood upon the backs of a dozen giant undead turtles. The structure was destroyed so thoroughly by Ras Nsi’s own rampaging undead forces that almost nothing remains except:
- Crushed turtle shells and bleached bones
- Massive heaps of jumbled stone slowly sinking into the muck
- No discernible outlines of the original walls
Hazards
The region presents elevated danger to travelers—random encounters occur at double the normal frequency here. The poisonous vegetation and general atmosphere of decay make this one of Chult’s most treacherous territories.
Geographic Context
The Nsi Wastes are referenced by Bwayes O’tamu (the weretiger of the Narwhal wreck) as a landmark, lying east of Nangalore. He describes the area as lying between the River Olung and the ruined garden palace.
The wasteland stands as a testament to Ras Nsi’s destructive power and the consequences of necromantic warfare in Chult.
