The Soshenstar River is one of two major rivers flowing from the Aldani Basin in Chult, providing key access routes for explorers departing from Port Nyanzaru. It serves as a primary waterway for expeditions venturing into the interior of Chult.
Geography and Access
The Soshenstar flows out of the Aldani Basin, a marshy upland region enclosed by tall plateaus and dense foliage. The river is easily accessible by canoe from Port Nyanzaru, making it an excellent route for shake-down expeditions as adventurers learn to navigate Chult’s unforgiving wilderness. The basin where the river originates is a popular feeding ground for dinosaurs and hosts swarms of biting insects.
The Aldani Basin
The basin is named after the aldani (lobsterfolk), who retreated to the secluded lakes of this region a century ago and have remained hidden since. While most Chultans believe the aldani have perished, they actually still inhabit the area. The Heart of Ubtao—a mysterious floating location—can be seen above the marsh from up to 50 miles away when the sky is clear (visibility varies through mist and heat haze).
