Throne Hill is one of four steep hills that define Port Nyanzaru’s geography and serves as the elevated site of Goldenthrone, the seat of power in the city. The hill is positioned centrally within Port Nyanzaru’s walled districts, connected to Temple Hill (the westernmost hill) via a wide stone bridge supported by arched columns, and linked by a second bridge to the southern slopes where several merchant princes maintain their villas.

As part of the city’s “walls within walls” defensive architecture, Throne Hill represents the wealthy, protected core of Port Nyanzaru. Like other structures in the city, the hill’s buildings and walls are decorated with colorful paintings featuring geometric designs, animals, and mythic figures. The hill’s fortifications are constructed from massive, fitted stone—impressive barriers that protect the city’s richest residents from both jungle dangers and the perceived threats from less-well-off districts outside the main walls.

The hill’s strategic position and the presence of Goldenthrone make it a focal point of political power in Port Nyanzaru, serving as the administrative center for the merchant princes who govern the city.
