Tiryki Anchorage is a rough district located to the southeast of Port Nyanzaru’s main walls, outside the city’s primary defenses. It serves as a hub for animal trainers, river folk, explorers seeking cheap lodging, and smugglers who prefer its unregulated docks over the more heavily policed harbor.
Character and Function
The district attracts working-class residents and those who operate on the margins of Port Nyanzaru’s regulated economy. Smugglers particularly favor the anchorage because goods can be loaded and unloaded without official inspection, though the area lacks the dock workers and beast-powered cranes available in the main harbor.
Vulnerabilities
Unlike the Old City and Malar’s Throat, Tiryki Anchorage has no fortified temples or ancient stone ziggurats where residents can shelter during attacks. When warning horns sound signaling approaching undead or carnivores, residents must run for Tiryki Gate and hope to reach the main city before the gate is locked. The penned animals in the district provide some early warning, as they are more sensitive to approaching dangers than humans and typically alert residents before creatures can sneak in undetected.
Black Market
Along with Malar’s Throat and the Old City, Tiryki Anchorage hosts Port Nyanzaru’s secretive black market. Characters seeking to bypass the merchant princes’ monopolies can attempt to contact black marketeers here by spending half a day in the district and succeeding on a DC 15 Charisma (Deception) check. Black market prices range from 3-8 times normal value (1d4+2 multiplier).
Notable Residents
River Mist and Flask of Wine, tabaxi siblings and Zhentarim-affiliated guides, conduct their business quietly in Tiryki Anchorage and Malar’s Throat to avoid the merchant princes’ fees. They meet potential clients only in these seedier locations.
