The Trial of the Pentagon is a trap disguised as a feast, located behind a door carved with a pentagon symbol. The room features red tapestries and tables laden with an enticing spread of roast boar, squash stew, iced cakes, and frothy beer—all prepared with hostile intent by the Sewn Sisters.
The Manservant
The trial is overseen by Mister Threadneedle, the Sewn Sisters’ manservant who appears as a gaunt human male in a dusty black suit. He silently tends the feast and gestures for visitors to partake. In reality, Mister Threadneedle is a scarecrow concealed by illusion magic (detectable with detect magic, dispellable with DC 16 dispel magic). He understands Common but cannot speak, communicating only through nods, gestures, and facial expressions.
Strategic Importance
Mister Threadneedle carries two significant items:
- The Sewn Sisters’ hag eye (allowing the hags to remotely observe through him)
- One lustrous black marble (related to area 81)
The scarecrow remains passive unless attacked first or commanded by the hags to engage. The magical feast serves as both surveillance and potential ambush point, with the hags having been warned of the adventurers’ approach and preparing this deception accordingly.
