Description
Ubtao’s Jaws is a large gate in the city wall of Port Nyanzaru, strategically positioned facing the slum district of Malar’s Throat. The gate serves as the primary drainage outlet for the city’s runoff system.
Function
During heavy rains, water runoff pours down from the ravine of Malar’s Throat, through Ubtao’s Jaws, and down the paved streets to the harbor. This torrent is powerful enough to sweep away unattended baskets, dead animals, and even unlucky or clumsy Chultans caught in its path.
Location
The gate is situated in the city wall directly facing Malar’s Throat, the slum district characterized by ramshackle buildings clinging to jungle-draped ridges flanking a deep ravine.
