The Valley of Dread is a treacherous passage cutting through eastern Chult, bounded by the Sky Lizard Mountains to the north and the Sanrach Mountains to the south. It serves as a likely entry point for explorers coming from the eastern reaches of the peninsula.

Geography and Environment

The valley is filled with dense jungle and is notorious for being a dinosaur stomping ground, hosting all varieties of these prehistoric creatures. The terrain makes navigation and survival particularly challenging, living up to its foreboding name.

Strategic Importance

The Flaming Fist believes the lost city of Omu lies somewhere in the valley, specifically at its western end—south of Lake Luo but east of the Peaks of Flame. Their researchers at Fort Beluarian are convinced the ruins are mostly abandoned and are actively seeking adventurers to conduct initial exploration of this remote area. The distance from Fort Beluarian makes direct military expeditions impractical.

Inhabitants

Beyond the ubiquitous dinosaurs, the valley is home to several lizardfolk realms governed by ruthless kings and queens. These organized settlements add a layer of political danger to the region’s already formidable natural hazards.

Access Points

Snapping Turtle Bay serves as an excellent starting point for expeditions into the valley’s western reaches. Commander Liara Portyr of the Flaming Fist is willing to provide sea transport to either Snapping Turtle Bay or Refuge Bay for adventurers undertaking exploration missions. From Snapping Turtle Bay, the journey requires crossing the immense jungle between the Peaks of Flame and the valley itself—a trek for which cyclopes from the bay can be hired as bearers, guards, or guides.
