Overview

The Venom Distillery is a workspace within the Fane of the Night Serpent where yuan-ti extract and experiment with snake venom. The chamber serves as both a laboratory and a testing ground for developing increasingly potent poisons.

Description

The chamber features:

  • Moist, sticky air with natural light filtering through ceiling cracks
  • Mud-coated floor
  • Stone workbenches covered with clay bottles of various shapes and sizes
  • Living plants including toadstools, snakeroot, and belladonna fed by water seeping from above
  • A trapped and locked south door (DC 15 Dexterity to pick, DC 20 Perception to find trap, DC 12 Dexterity to disable)

Inhabitants

Xopal (yuan-ti pureblood) operates the distillery with five human zombies as laborers. He possesses a bronze syringe containing three doses of his poison cocktail.

Xopal’s Goal

Xopal believes he is destined to transform into a more powerful yuan-ti form by developing a poison so virulent it can overcome even innate immunity to poison. He uses the zombies as test subjects to overcome their immunity, planning to conduct further tests on live yuan-ti once successful.

Combat Mechanics

  • Lock: DC 15 Dexterity check with thieves’ tools
  • Trap Detection: DC 20 Wisdom (Perception)
  • Trap Disable: DC 12 Dexterity check
  • Effect: DC 16 Dexterity save or take 5 (1d10) poison damage and become permanently blinded (curable by lesser restoration)

Xopal’s Syringe Attack

  • Attack: +3 to hit, 1 piercing damage
  • Poison Effect: DC 14 Constitution save or take 10 (3d6) poison damage (half on success)
  • Additional Effect: Poisoned condition for 1 hour regardless of save result
  • Doses: Three total
